LS Marine Solution announced on the 12th that it had been selected as the preferred bidder for the transportation and laying of submarine cables for the Haesong Offshore Wind Power Project, the largest offshore wind power project in Korea.
The Haesong Offshore Wind Power Plant is a power plant complex located on the western sea of Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do. With two 504 MW complexes and a total capacity of 1 GW, its electricity production is equivalent to that of a nuclear power plant.
LS Marine Solution will carry out the entire process of constructing internal and external networks, from conducting marine surveys, to laying and burying submarine cables, to testing connections.
In particular, the company plans to demonstrate its ability to perform high-difficulty construction in deep-sea and long-distance sea areas by utilizing the only HVDC-dedicated installation vessel currently under construction in Korea.
“LS Marine Solution was selected as the preferred bidder because the company proved its technological prowess and reliability through the successful completion of Jeonnam Offshore Wind Power Complex 1,” said Kim Byung-ok, CEO of LS Marine Solution. “We will further strengthen our global competitiveness by cooperating with world-class development and investment partners in carrying out the Haesong Offshore Wind Power Project.”
LS Marine Solution has been participating in national power infrastructure expansion projects for the past 30 years, including the Jeju-Mainland System Linkage Project and Jeonnam Offshore Wind Power Complex 1, and has accumulated specialized submarine cable construction technology and know-how.
Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, a global green energy investment and development company, is in charge of investment and overall project management for the Haesong Offshore Wind Power Project, while Copenhagen Offshore Partners, an offshore wind power developer under CIP, is carrying out project development work such as licensing and technology development.
